Laknavaram Lake, born of Kakatiya vision and embraced by forested hillocks, is now a thriving eco-tourism haven — with island resorts, boating, and a famed suspension bridge. But visitors must stay alert during monsoon surges and heed safety advisories.
Kakatiya Craftsmanship in Nature’s Lap
In the year 1213 A.D., during the reign of Sri Ganapathi Rudradeva of the Kakatiya dynasty, a vision took shape in the valleys near Chalvai village in Govindaraopet mandal. The rulers discovered a natural basin formed by four narrow valleys, fed by the Laknavaram stream, a tributary of the Godavari River. They built a sluice gate, transforming the basin into a vast reservoir — now known as Laknavaram Cheruvu.
• Area: Over 10,000 acres
• Water capacity: 2.135 TMC ft
• Irrigation: Supports 3,500 acres across six villages
• Elevation: 536 meters above sea level
This lake remains a testament to medieval hydrological engineering, blending utility with timeless beauty.

Laknavaram Lake is not just a reservoir — it’s a scenic sanctuary. Surrounded by lush forests and hillocks, the lake glistens like a mirror to the sky.
Hillocks nearby: While specific names are rarely documented, the lake is nestled among the Govindaraopet forest range, with Chalvai hills forming part of the backdrop.13 mini islands emerge during monsoon, adding to the lake’s mystique.
Sunrise views: Morning rays filtering through trees onto the water create a golden spectacle.

Laknavaram has evolved into a major eco-tourism hub, thanks to initiatives by the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC).
